Some of our questions are smart! They have subquestions which give you even more customisation when creating a question set.

What is a subquestion?

To give you even more customisation when making question sets we created subquestions!

Here's an example of how they work:

  • You want to collect information about Staff Members and Volunteers
To do so, you select the 'Staff Members and Volunteers' question and add it to your question set.
  • You need to ask for specific details about each Staff Member or Volunteer
This information may be different from what another organisation will need to request.
  • You can customise what information you ask for using subquestions
You can use subquestions to create a list of questions to ask about each staff member.

How do I add a subquestion?

To add a subquestion to your question set, first, create a new question set. View a step by step guide for creating a question set →

1. Select a question that has subquestions

There are a number of questions in our app that have subquestions. Some examples are, services, locations and, staff members and volunteers. Click on the question title to open up the question preview modal.

2. Preview the top-level question

The question preview window shows an interactive preview of the question that you are adding. This is exactly how organisations will see the question in a request.

3. Add the top-level question

To add the top-level question, click the add to question set button.

4. Preview the subquestions

To preview a subquestion, select it from the list of subquestions underneath the question preview window. This will show you a preview of the subquestion, where you can add or remove it from your question set.

Note: Every top-level question has at least one required subquestion.

  • Most of the time this is the title of the item. For example, the required subquestion for 'Staff Members and Volunteers' is the staff members name.
  • When you add the top-level question, all required subquestions will automatically be added.
  • Required questions are marked with a lock.
  • Once a subquestion has been added, it will turn green and display a tick.

5. Add the subquestion

To add the subquestion select the 'add to question set' button.

6. Preview your list of selected questions

If you are previewing a subquestion, click the back button to return to the top-level question.

Use the interactive preview to see the form created from your list of chosen subquestions. In this example click the Add a staff member button inside the preview.

You will now see a form created from the list of subquestions you selected.
